Gerrit Vandenberg, Ed Buoncore, and Richard Mohrbach incorporated North Pole Christian School in the fall of 1982. Their goal was to provide a quality Christian education for their own children and for the North Pole Christian Community, free from certain influences in the public schools, where the Bible would be honored and Jesus Christ would be glorified.
School opened for the first day of classes in the fall of 1983 with 49 students in the original main building of on the northeast corner of Newby and Silver leaf. Classes were held for Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 through 10. 12 part-time teachers and volunteers ably assisted teachers Philip Best, Susan Vorberg, and Ceslie Beil. A common heart and purpose prevailed over any difficulties, knitting together faculty, students, and parents and making that first year one to be remembered and cherished by all.
The school doubled in size the following year, expanding to 119 students, 7 full time teachers, 23 part-time teachers and volunteers, and the Lord’s provision of additional classroom space leased in the building across the street.
Various growing pains have encouraged much dependence on the Lord and thankfulness for academic, social, and spiritual growth in the school.
As we look to the future, we are thankful for the Lord’s many blessings over these past years and the abiding confidence that His faithfulness will always be with us.
